Once upon a time I was radio host, then a tv host, a poet, a visual artist, an actress, a journalist, a singer, an emcee, a speaker, and a web show producer. Now however, I’m just Amanda Diva. All of those things still remain, but as opposed to being different streams going in the direction of trying to “make it” they have come together to form one strong force carving its own known niche. The goal was once to “make it”. Now, it’s just to keep on doing it. Doing this. Making quality work to fill people up and cure their hunger pangs for the good shit. I’ve worked with the greats. I’ve been on the computer screen, the small screen, and the big screen. I’ve interviewed my heroes. I’ve seen a number of my dreams come true. However, I now work to help make others’ come true and apply all that I’ve learned so far on this journey.
When people ask Amanda Diva, “What do you do?” she answers, “Everything.” Starting off as a young actress on Nickelodeon sitcom, “My Brother and Me” Diva is no stranger to the madness that is showbiz. Moving to New York in 1999 she was exposed to the hip-hop culture in a completely new way than that of her hometown Orlando, FL and was hooked. Soon she was writing and performing on the spoken word poetry scene before being chosen to appear on Russell Simmon’s Def Poetry Jam (’02 & ’05). While performing at a political fundraiser she was discovered by a Program Director at Sirius Satellite Radio and found herself unsuspectingly breaking into the music business as a radio personality with her morning show “Breakfast at Diva’s” (’03-’08). During that time she managed to obtained a Master’s in African American studies from the prestigious Columbia University and also landed her dream job as the face of hip-hop on MTV2 interviewing close to every relevant hip-hop/R&B artist of the last 10 yrs including Jay-Z, Nas, Mariah Carey, Pharrell Williams, and even acting heavyweights like Tom Cruise and Jamie Fox. Always a music buff her love affair with it grew as she became a recording herself releasing numerous EP’s and touring/working with greats like Q-tip, The Roots, Lupe Fiasco, and others. However she continues to speak as a culture critic serving as comedy commentator and music expert on VH1, host & creator of “Diva Speak TV” a humor based news/sketch comedy web show, host of “Speaking of…” on Music Choice, and host & creator of “The Spark” on AOL’s BlackVoices.com. Always looking to positively affect audiences she has expanded off the screen and into academia taking to stages at colleges, universities, and events to motivate, entertain, and encourage forward movement in especially the Black, female, and hip-hop communities. In addition Deev is also an accomplished visual artist who shows in exhibits, does live painting events, and has a hand-painted bag line available on www.DivaWorksofArt.com. However, the phrase “Jack of all trades master of none” doesn’t apply here. A stickler for quality and efficiency Amanda dedicates immeasurable time and effort to making sure all facets of her franchise are on par and on point!
